Martin Schulz signs “Fresach Declaration on Tolerance”

The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, has signed the “Fresach Declaration on Tolerance 2015” on 3rd June in Brussel. In the presence of the Martina Rattinger, Head of the Carinthian liaison offices in Brussels, and the President of Think.Tank.Fresach Hannes Swoboda, Schulz set his signature on the document, which was adopted at the European Tolerance Talks. Previously, Federal President Heinz Fischer and Carinthian Governor Peter Kaiser had already signed. The declaration can be signed by the public and visitors at the Tolerance Museum of the Carinthian mountain village Fresach during the opening times throughout the summer.

Martin Schulz has “outed” himself as a friend and supporter already in the preparations of the first “European tolerance talks” from 21 to 23 May 2015 in Fresach. Due to the summit in Riga he could not come, but sent a video message to the participants, in which he explained his definition of tolerance. See http://bit.ly/1RLDLb8 Tolerance means to him, he said in this message, “that one can endure that other people have different opinions and different priorities, and have other principles. Tolerance means respect others regardless of their origin, color of their skin, their religion.” He had already learned this in his family, with parents who had very different political views. (ws)
