A magnificent memorial concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Carinthian poet Ingeborg Bachmann (Carinthian Requiem) kicked off Tolerance Week on the Sunday before Pentecost 2026 in the Protestant church in Fresach. Before an audience of approximately 400, “reader” Claudia Rosenwirth-Fendre, together with Carinthian choirs and brass ensembles under the direction of Hans Benedikt, presented an emotionally moving and memorable concert.
Also present was Heinz Bachmann, the brother of the writer, who died in 1973. He had previously visited the special exhibition at the Tolerance Museum. The Requiem was moderated by Margarethe Prinz-Büchl, board member of Denk.Raum.Fresach. Among the distinguished guests were State Parliament President Andreas Scherwitzl, Cathedral Provost Engelbert Guggenberger, Superintendent Andrea Mattioli, and, in addition to Fresach’s Mayor Gerhard Altziebler, numerous other local leaders.
