Dialogue Forum to be continued, Expansion of Tolerance center

Fresach (12 June 2019) – The 5th European Tolerance Talks 2019 in Carinthia have set a new visitors record. Nearly 800 participants took part in the three-day dialogue forum in the Carinthian mountain village Fresach, another 200 attended the tourism forum and the opening reception in Villach. More than 500 people watched the discussions over the Internet. A record of the more than 20 statements, papers, interviews and podium rounds will be made available on the website in the coming weeks. Read the whole article

Sonia Boumad receives Tolerance Award 2019

PEN and City of Villach honor “Humility and Love” of lebenese Author

Villach unveals Memorial Plaque on 5th June

To remember nazi-critical authors in times of Hate speach and Xenophobia

Villach (30 May 2019) – On Wednesday, 5 June 2019, at 1 pm, the city of Villach will unveal a memorial board in the Alps-Adriatic Mediatheque of the Chamber of Labor at Kaiser-Josef-Platz 1 of the Austrian PEN Club, to commemorate authors who defended the freedom of the word during their lifetime, during the Nazi era. Mayor Günther Albel, PEN President Helmuth A. Niederle, the President of the Carinthian Parliament Reinhard Rohr and Superintendent Manfred Sauer from the Evangelical Church participate in the unveiling on the margins of the European Tolerance Talks. Fresach adopts Declaration on Climate Change

Who wants to live in peace and prosperity must learn to share

Fresach (17 May 2016) The participants of the European tolerance talks in 2016 adopted last weekend a “Declaration on Climate Change 2016”. Europe is called to face up to its responsibilities. No community is can exist without limits, but walls and fences do not solve problems. “Who wants to live in peace and prosperity, has to share learning,” reads the statement, which was signed among others by the UNDP Executive Director A.D. Prof. Klaus Töpfer,  the Governor of Carinthia Peter Kaiser, the Villach Mayor Günther Albel and the Carinthian state parliament president Reinhart Rohr.

“Europe’s borders” from 12 May in Fresach

European tolerance talks 2016 about climate change and migration

Villach (6 May 2016) “The borders of Europe and the impact of climate change” are the main issues of the three-day European tolerance talks in 2016, which take place from next Thursday before Pentecost in the Carinthian mountain village Fresach. The opening takes place Wednesday evening (5/11) with Governor Peter Kaiser and Mayor Günther Albel in Villach. Nearly 50 top authors, environmental scientists and migration experts are expected, including UNDP Executive Director A.D. Klaus Töpfer and the US civil rights activist Stephen Bradberry. The Dialogue Forum addresses primarily to municipalities, politicians, education and integration in charge of the administration, which must deal with the consequences of global environmental changes at the local level. “Flight, migration and climate change are not new phenomena, they are rather in a direct relationship with the progressive industrial exploitation of nature”, the president of the Council of the European tolerance conversations, Hannes Swoboda says. “If we want to change something, we need to make the causes aware.”

Think.Tank.Fresach passes Declaration of Tolerance

Fresach (22 May 2015) – On the occasion of the first European Dialogues of Tolerance The Denk.Raum.Fresach (DRF) which is an independent initiative for tolerance and integration in Europe has published “Fresach’s Declaration to Tolerance 2015”. The declaration consists of three section and 20 items, in which a profound and current understanding of the concept of tolerance is defined. It was signed by the DRF board and trustees as well as further hundred present participants of the dialogue forum at Fresach and was read on Friday evening at the tolerance museum by the president of the board of trustees, Hannes Swoboda. Bishop Buenker, the head of the Evangelical Church A.B. in Austria, grew up in Radenthein in Carinthia and therefore has a close relationship with the nearby mountain village Fresach. The small settlement above the Drava Valley played an important role even in the early days of the Reformation. Fresach holds the oldest Protestant prayer house in the country.

Background

European Tolerance Talks 2015

In autumn 2014 individuals from business, politics and culture founded Denk.Raum.Fresach – with the aim of creating a forum for dialogue on tolerance and integration in Europe in the Carinthian mountain village Fresach. The successful Carinthian State Exhibition 2011 “Remain credible – 500 Years of Protestant adventure” on the same subject with over 70,000 visitors was already a first step in this direction.
